Job Title: Café Assistant
Hours: A part time role between 12 and 30 hours per week
Reports to: Hutton Community Centre Café Supervisor
Pay: £11.50 per hour
Hutton Community Centre is run by a charity which holds a long term lease with Brentwood
Borough Council. It is a not for profit operations which has the goal of providing as diverse a
set of activities and services as possible for the local community. By joining our team you
will be helping to provide café services supporting over 35 different activities, with over 400
people per week using the centre.
1.0 Job Outline
• The Hutton Community Centre is run by a small number of staff, supported by a number
of volunteers.
• You will be responsible for the day to day operation of the café, reporting to the Café
Supervisor
2.0 Duties and Responsibilities
2.1 Short Term
• Work day to day such that:
o Agreed standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained in the kitchen / café
o Good standards of customer service are maintained
o Good standards of food quality are maintained
• Assist the supervisor to manage the day to day and week to week stock
• Assist the supervisor to order replacement food stock and other catering supplies
• Manage the till and assist the supervisor to manage the daily float
• Carry out kitchen duties including but not limited to:
o Opening and closing the café when needed
o Preparing, serving, and selling a variety of hot and cold drinks and food.
o Maintaining kitchen equipment according to provided guidelines.
o Completing tasks listed on the Start of Day and End of Day checklists.
o Conducting and recording temperature checks on refrigerators and freezers.
o Test and record food temperatures using a probe.

o Be familiar with common allergens and complete the allergen list for all in-house
prepared food.
o Respond to customer questions, feedback, or complaints.
2.2 Medium and Long Term
Assist the café supervisor periodically to:
• Stocktake and monitor long term stock usage
• Deep clean the kitchen
3.0 Personal Attributes
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience (with training to be given where needed):
• Accredited Level 2 Qualification in Food Hygiene for Food Handlers.
• Knowledge and clear understanding of relevant Health and Safety issues and Regulations
as they apply to the Café
• Hold a relevant qualification in First Aid
• Experience in a café and or community centre setting
• Ability to handle food safely and maintain high cleanliness standards.
• Skills in correct food handling techniques to prevent contamination and comply with
health and safety regulations and sanitation standards.
• Capability to operate and clean various types of café equipment thoroughly, including
coffee brewers, grinders, espresso machines, blenders, and microwaves.
• Ability to provide guidance and direction to volunteers as needed.

4.0 Other Requirements Relating to the Post
Willingnessto undertake such other duties as may be needed in case of emergency or to meet
the exigencies of the Centre, including working outside normal working hours
